Introduction to Industrial Career Tutorial Walkthrough

Posted by admin on 9th September 2009 in Industrial Walktrough

Making Mountains of Molehills

ISK makes the universe go round, and industry makes the Willard Wheels that turn it. This is your Industrial tutorial mission. It is composed of 10 parts and will follow the story of an overworked, underappreciated agent (just like real life). This mission, with a little experience can all be done with your rookie ship and can be done in one day. You will have 7 days to do this mission. Seven day after talking to the agent the first time it will go away and you cannot talk to them again.

This is a short guide of what you will encounter during this run and a few rookie mistakes to avoid. I will also take this time to cover a few little tricks and tips to help you along the way. But as with all things EVE, don’t count on this remaining constant, EVE is ever growing and changing.

This mission, if run alone (minus repair cost, training, ammo, and losses), will net you: a few ships, some modules, a lot ISK and some loot. The training you will receive will help you do build, research, perform tasks and travel around EVE. I will tell you the adventure I did and show you what I got (minus the loot) just so you have an idea. The modules and ships will be different for each race. I want to also state that your status with the agent will also affect the amount of reward and bonuses you get so the prices listed here are only for reference and may not reflect the amount you get.

Business Career Turtorial Walkthrough Mission 1 of 10

Posted by admin on 9th September 2009 in Business Walkthrough

This is my story using an Amarraian Pilot, but the gist is the same for the other Races. Enjoy.

Balancing the Books (1 of 10)

Objective:           Deliver some important Datasheets to another system or station.

                Reward:               38,000 ISK

                Bonus:                  38,000 ISK

                Collateral:            155 ISK

Mission Log: Lady D’Mentia (that’s me), Capt. This is a simple transport and delivery mission in another system. I set that auto pilot up for the round trip as soon as saw the orders. Made sure I transferred the documents from my hanger to the cargo hold. Undocked and hit the auto pilot. After going through the Jumpgate I warped to the location I was given. Talked to my agent again, completed the mission, undocked and hit the autopilot again. After going through the jumpgate, I simply warped back to station and checked in with the agent and collect my reward and bonus.

- End Log -

  • When the agent gives you a mission you will sometimes see that the location is another system. Right click on the orange link and set destination. You can then select the orange link for the agent, right click and add waypoint. This will set up you auto pilot for a round trip. You can use this method to make several stops. One thing you will want to check is that you have your auto pilot set to stop at each point. You can do this by selecting the map icon on the left hand side or by pressing F10. Then under ‘Autopilot’ tab select ‘Settings’. Then activate the “Disable autopilot at each waypoint”. While here also select the “prefer safer”, this will keep you in high sec as much as possible. Then hit the map icon, F10 or select ‘close map’ to get back to your normal view.
  • When using the autopilot to travel, it will warp you to about 15km from the gate and then set you on approach to the gate. When you reach the gate, it will jump you automatically. On the other side it will warp you to the next gate (again 15 km off) or disengage if you have reached your destination or waypoint.
  • By right clicking in space, going to the bottom of the menu under Agent Missions, will you have one or more of the following. Encounter, Drop off, Agent station. Hovering over the one you want brings another menu, simply warp to, or dock.

Hope this was helpful, until next time Fly safe

Intro to the Business Career Tutorial Walkthrough

Balancing the Books (Amarr)

ISK makes the universe go round, and business greases the Willard Wheels. This is your Business tutorial mission. It is composed of 10 parts and will follow the story of an overworked, underappreciated agent. This mission, with a little experience can all be done with your rookie ship and can be done in one day. You will have 7 days to do this mission set. Seven day after talking to the agent the first time all remaining missions with that agent will go away and you cannot talk to them again.

This is a short guide of what you will encounter during this run and a few rookie mistakes to avoid. I will also take this time to cover a few little tricks and tips to help you along the way. But as with all things EVE, don’t count on this remaining constant, EVE is ever growing and changing.

This mission, if run alone (minus repair cost, training, ammo, and losses), will net you: a few ships, a few skill books, a +1 implant, some modules, a lot of ISK and some loot. The training you will receive will help you do build, research, perform tasks and travel around EVE. And This Little Pilot Went to Market

Posted by admin on 9th September 2009 in Career Missions, Game Mechanics, Market Research

In this article I will be doing a brief overview of the market in EVE Online. Let’s cover just some of the basics that will allow you to navigate the market and get your items safely and at the best price. I will be making the assumption that you are new to EVE Online so forgive me is some of this is real basic.

Let’s start by first opening your market window. This can be done in station by the menu on the right or in space by using the market button on your ‘neocom’ on the left. The first thing I want you to do is to open the setting tab and make the following changes. In the right hand side window, across the top is a series of tabs, select the tab marked ‘Settings’. Deselect all check boxes except “Display Orders in High Security Systems” and “Automatically Refresh Market Data”

These changes will restrict your search for items to High Security space, no sense in spending your ISK for an item in Low Sec space just to get blown up trying to get at it or worse getting you and the item blown up trying to get out.

Now let’s get back to the main window. Let’s first adjust the range to cover the whole region. On the left hand side near the top there is a drop down menu, ‘Range Filter’, this menu adjust your range to the Station, the Solar System or the Region, select Region. At the bottom of the main window in the browse tab, deselect the check mark for “Show Only Available”. This check box will filter out those items that are not available in your range. Right now I want you to see the whole list of items available through the market. This is a great source of information later on.

Now at the top of the left hand side of this window we have three tabs, Browse, Search, and Quick market. The browse tab allows you to see the full list of items available on the open market in EVE Online. I should note at this time that this is not the total list of items in EVE, some items are not available on the open market but are only valuable though an mission agent or the Contracts area. The search tab is where you can search for an item if you are unsure of the location in the browse tab. Just type part of the name of an item in the search box and hit search. All items containing this phrase in its title will appear in the area below, and then it’s just a matter of clicking on the name to get the information. The final tab, ‘Quickbar’ is your person shopping list area, these are items that you select to be here and I use for frequents searches like minerals or ammo.

In the Browse tab we find a list of header areas that all the items are place under. Ammunition would be under ‘Ammunition and Charges’, Skills under ‘Skills’ etc… Simply click on the header to open a drop down list of other menu items until you reach the item you want. For example let’s look for ‘Mining I’ lasers. This would be under ‘Ships Equipment’, ‘Turrets and Launchers’, ‘Mining Lasers’ and again ‘Mining Lasers’.

Once we get to the lowest level of the menu a list of items will appear on the left hand side window and on the right hand side a list giving us the description and price of each item. There are two buttons here also, ‘Buy’ and ‘Show Details’. Lets press the ‘View Details’ button on the ‘Miner I’. This changes our view for this item. In the upper portion we have all the sellers and the lower all the buyers. Here’s a small fact/tip, if you look at the column marked ‘Expires In’ and see anything over 100 days, this is a Non Player Character (NPC) buyer or seller. Not all NPC buyers or sellers offer the best price, but it is a good base line price for the item. At the top of each list are a series of headers that will allow you to sort by these headers. On the Sellers select ‘Price’ until the lowest price is at the top of the list (small white arrow pointing up), and on the Buyers select ‘Price’ until the highest price is at the top of the list (small white arrow pointing down).

Now you can decide where you want to buy based on price and range. To buy an item simply right click on the seller line and select ‘Buy This’ and it will be done. Then is just a matter of picking the item up from your hanger in that station. You can also set the autopilot by right clicking the seller or buyer line and under Location select destination or waypoint. It’s a good idea to do this first in case you bought the last item, or you can always looking in your ‘Assets’ menu in the NeoCom.

If you have any question about and item, you can select the blue dot, or right click of the item on the item line to ‘Show Info’. Remember to look under the items ‘Prerequisites’ to see if you can use the item and what skills you need to use it before investing your ISK. Right clicking on the left hand side list will also give you the opportunity to add this item to your ‘Quickbar’ list so you can find it quickly.

After a while you may want to play with some of the settings depending on your needs, but the one I gave you above will be the safest way for you to shop around.

I hope you found this information of help. Be sure to subscribe and you will get notices of future post. If you have any questions, be sure to comment and I will try and get an answer to you ASAP.

Who am I?

Posted by admin on 7th September 2009 in Career Missions, Character Development, Game Set Up

Character generation is a lot easier now in EVE Online. Before you had to pick one of four races, Amarr, Caldari, Gallete and Minmatar. Then choose your ancestry, bloodline and gender. Then one of 3 professions, Business, Military or Industrial. And those has 2 subdivisions, Standard and Elite. Along the way you had 5 “Attribute” points to place in Intelligence, Will power, Charisma, Memory, and Perception. Each of these changes had different skill sets and different bonuses, so you had to play around and try and find the right set of things to give you what you wanted. That of course was if you knew what you wanted. As a new player to EVE Online you did not know what to do. Which race should I pick? What skills do I need to do what? What did that skill do? These where the common questions every new play would ask. Of course you got to play with your appearance a bit and change the background and enter you characters name.

Now the new character generation is simpler. You still have to pick a race, ancestry, bloodline, and gender. You still get to play with your features and background. But the professions and extra attribute points are no more, at least not in the generation process. Now you get the chance to try each profession at the same solar system. You have 2 free attribute re-mappings to move points around. You also learn skills at an accelerated rate, up to a certain point. All these give you the chance to experiment and see where you want to go and what does everything do. You get the chance to play the game before really determining who you are.

As for any advice i can give you about the first few chooses (Race, Ancestry, Bloodline and gender), no one is better than another. Each race has their own version of each ship. They use their own type of weapons. They have their own history. And gender does not effect how well your ship performs or how much damage your weapons do (as you can see your attributes do not have things like dexterity or strength). So which every you choose will work. Granted once you get in you will run into other players who have their own biases and opinions, but there is no one better race.

As for profession, well you will get a chance to dabble into each one. I would say do each of the career based tutorial missions. You will get ships, weapons, ammo, equipment and skill books along the way. There will be a chance to do a Mission Arc at the end which will give you a good test of what you have learned and a chance to travel around. Maybe along the way you will find friends or a place you want to call home. Granted this last mission arc is a tough one and you will most likely need to ask for help, don’t be afraid to. EVE is loaded with both good and bad guys. You need to be alert but don’t be paranoid either. More often than not you will find good people who just want to help and have fun.

Ask others for help, either in doing a mission or about a piece of equipment or even how to do something. There are alot of people out there and I am sure you will find someone who will give you a hand. Remember we where all newbies at one point. And again this is why I am writing these articles too. I Have been playing EVE for almost 2 years now, and I am still learning stuff, but I also enjoy helping others. If you have any questions go ahead and make a comment, I will do my best to get an answer to you (and others) ASAP.

Until next time, Fly Safe

Your First Days on the Job

Posted by admin on 5th September 2009 in Career Missions, Character Development, Missions

The tutorial missions are the best place to start in EVE. Not only do you get the chance to learn in a semi safe environment but you will gain some great stuff that you will need later on no matter what your profession turns out to be.

There are three professional tutorials, Industrial, Military and Business. Each tutorial has 10 parts. Some actions or missions are similar others are a complete unique thing. There is no special order to do these missions, but I think the following is the best way: Industrial, Military and then Business. At the end of the each tutorial you are given directions to another agent in another system for a mission arc. This is a long and detailed mission which will take you to each of the four races area of space. This will also challenge you and what you have learned but it can be done. But that is for a later article.

I have written up the tutorial missions and given a storyline over view of what you need to do and then some trick, tips and instructions to get them done easily and as quickly as possible.
